DRAWINGS
These drawings represent both a personal documentation and an exploration of a space. Beginning with my Grandfather's photographs, I sought to give memory to a man that, although he had died while I was young, became much like a folk hero to me. When I stumbled upon the photographs, I started connecting even more so and forming my own memories with the images and notes on the reverse side. It became a way to document a moment in a more personal way. By drawing these moments from his life, it forms an opportunity to relive the story on a much more intimate level. It has given me a much more personal relationship with both my Grandfather and my work.

As I continued these drawings, they evolved from just being about a personal relationship with the subject to a much deeper investigation. My interest now is in the space between abstraction and realism and the violations that occur within that intersection to form the composition. The drawings are about the instances and violations that occur in the composition to push it from simply capturing a moment into questioning a space.
